Nigeria is the heavenly nation of Africa, where tourist enjoy their stay to its peak. Nigeria is of significant importance in the world because of its extra ordinary geographical location. Nigeria is essentially a virgin business country with the capacity for many fresh business ideas.
The average Nigerian is naturally intelligent. History is loaded with stories of Nigerians everywhere all over the Planet.
Mother of six Amina Mohammed rose from a humble upbringing in the Lake Chad, was born in 1961 in Kaduna State of a British mother and a Nigerian Father from Gombe State. The inspiring tale of a personal and professional quest that starts in North-eastern Nigeria and continues today in New York. Her father, a civil servant and veterinarian, sent Amina to a boarding school in the UK where her mother, a registered nurse, already lived. Later, after leaving school, she worked in retail, sold insurance policies, helped in a nursing home, and managed a restaurant.
At the beginning of her career, Amina Mohammed was Founder and Executive Director of Afri-Projects Consortium, a multi-dimensional firm of engineers and quantity surveyors. She also worked with the architectural engineering firm Archcon Nigeria in partnership with Norman and Dawbarn, UK.
Amina Mohammed received the National Honours Award of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2006 and was inducted in the Nigerian Women’s Hall of Fame in 2007.The exemplary life of service of Ms. Amina Mohammed since her days as the National moderator of Civil Society Action Coalition On Education for All (CSACEFA) to her meritorious service in coordinating the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), her recent role in catalyzing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and her current transformative leadership as Nigeria’s Minister of the Environment; have demonstrated unwavering commitment, dedication and passion to the cause of humanity.
The journey has indeed been long, all the way from a primary school by Lake Chad to a place at the side of UN chief António Guterres, torchbearer of a sprawling organisation that, for all its very publicly displayed weaknesses, is of such vital importance to the global south. In all these positions Ms. Amina Mohammed has inspired us women to strive to be the best and aim for the stars.
At the UN, Mohammed as UN Deputy Secretary General stresses the importance of shared responsibility as a tool to change attitudes, reach agreement, and forge unity. Her job hasn’t become any easier as the current US administration continues to question the UN’s usefulness, direction, and budget.
We have drawn inspiration from her leadership, encouragement and wealth of experience. We are therefore not surprised that her dedication, passion and doggedness has propelled her to achieve the feat of been the first woman in Nigeria to attain the position as UN Deputy Secretary General. It is a signal to all women everywhere that women can shatter the glass ceiling and at the same time a clarion call for the enthronement of women’s leadership in the world.
