Government Advertisement Spend & Importance of Content Development
These days we are discussing a partial ban on Government Advertisement Budget estimated Rs1 Billion Per Annum distributed among the TV Channels & Print Media in Pakistan. As per the Federal Minister for Information & Broadcast Government Advertisement Spend on TV Channels especially on NEWS Channels are treated as a Bribe from Government to the Channels promoting their Political Agenda.
Undoubtedly we must agree with Federal Minister’s view but unfortunately those who are suffering from a ban on Got Ad Spend are lower staff of TV Channels especially on News Channels. Due to the ban TV Channels who are relying solely on revenue from Government Ads left with great loss of revenue & started laying off their employees right from the grass root level naming it a Recession.
Instead of blaming the Government for the recession we must not forget the importance of Content Development from the Channel side which is completely ignored by relying on Government Ad Spend.
Now to move forward & to find the solution, we must advise the Federal Government especially, Federal Ministry of Information & Broadcast to start investing the same allocated budget on Government Advertisement Budget on Content Development with TV Channels.
In the game of chess, the Queen is the most valuable player, able to move any number of squares vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. In the word of Media, content is said to be King; it educates people so that they know, like, and trust you well enough to do business with you. But great content doesn’t distribute itself.
Instead of investing on Advertisement Promoting Government Projects & Policies, the same amount must be invested on Content Development for educating & creating awareness on issues such as Education, Health, Poverty, Cleanliness, Civic Sense, Talent Hunt, Pollution, Importance of Law Abiding Citizen & Awareness on how to fight & identify Corruption & White Collar Crime through creative content (Paid Content) Produced by Channels. Content must be developed as a short movies or as a Talk Shows discussing only Positivity & finding the Solution.
The above strategy will not only bring the healthy change in the Industry but will also play a vital role in creating a Positive Image of Pakistan through Media. Similarly, with the content development the industry will create more Jobs with the Healthy competition in developing creative content among TV Channels.
